Tales2Go, based in Bethesda, MD, is a Netflix-like service that streams thousands of audiobook titles from leading publishers to desktops, laptops and mobile devices in the classroom and beyond. The company has innovated on both the delivery and business model of providing schools with audio books. Audio books raise reading scores, which is why they've been used in classrooms for decades. Proficient reading is the product of listening comprehension (i.e. fluency and vocabulary) and decoding skills. It's why the Common Core Standards put special emphasis on developing listening skills within K-5 literacy and established reading methods such as The Daily 5 use audio books as part of their program. Given the dramatic increase in the number of laptops and mobile devices issued/available to both students and teachers, Tales2Go is a great upgrade for your school's media center.
