Stackdriver Raises $10M

2013-09-18
BOSTON, MA, Provider of intelligent management for cloud-powered applications, today announced that it has closed a $10M round of Series B financing.
Stackdriver, the provider of intelligent management for cloud-powered applications, today announced that it has closed a $10M round of Series B financing, led by Flybridge Capital Partners, with existing investor Bain Capital Ventures also participating. In addition, the company announced the general availability of Stackdriver Intelligent Monitoring, a monitoring-as-a-service solution that uses advanced analytics to proactively identify performance issues and bottlenecks within distributed applications.

Since its inception in 2012, Stackdriver has focused on helping cloud-powered companies address performance bottlenecks before they impact customers while reducing the burden associated with patchwork monitoring solutions. Stackdriver Intelligent Monitoring includes several breakthrough features, such as:

Rapid Stack Discovery, which discovers and maps relationships between key system, application, and infrastructure resources within minutes of deployment.
Stack Scanner, an analytics engine that detects transient performance issues, identifies cluster outliers, pinpoints metric anomalies, and predicts capacity constraints.
Elastic Monitoring, which enables customers to monitor dynamic and ephemeral resources (such as those that scale automatically) without manually updating alerting policies and dashboards.
AWS Insights, which correlates AWS events, code deploys, and incidents, identifying performance optimization opportunities.

Hundreds of innovative companies, including Smugmug, 99designs, Vocalocity, Extreme Reach, 8k Miles, and Chopra Center, have standardized on Stackdriver for system and infrastructure monitoring.

'Before Stackdriver, we struggled to find a monitoring solution that works with dynamic cloud environments,' said Andrew Shieh, Director of Operations at Smugmug. 'Today, we use Stackdriver to ensure that our systems and infrastructure deliver the performance that our millions of users expect. Stackdriver is exactly what we would have written if we were building our own cloud monitoring product.'

Stackdriver Intelligent Monitoring is now available to all AWS users at www.stackdriver.com. The service, which customers can deploy in less than two minutes, includes two tiers:

Stackdriver Free - For environments with up to 10 resources, at no charge.
Stackdriver Pro - For environments more than 10 resources, at $8/resource/month.

Both tiers of service include all of Stackdriver's innovative features.

According to IDC, the market for Cloud Systems Management is expected to grow to $2.0B by 2017,(1) driven in large part by accelerating adoption of Amazon Web Service and OpenStack. 'The rapid rise of new infrastructure platforms and new application architectures have rendered legacy management models and tools obsolete,' explained Dan Belcher, Stackdriver Co-Founder. 'Cloud-native applications require solutions that handle hosted services, elastic capacity, and distributed architectures effortlessly, and this is what we try to be really good at.'

Stackdriver opted to raise additional financing ahead of its original plan in order to satisfy a surge in customer demand while accelerating delivery of new analytics capabilities and private cloud support. Chip Hazard, a General Partner from Flybridge Capital Partners, will join Stackdriver's board as part of the investment.

'We're very excited to have Chip Hazard from Flybridge join the team,' said Izzy Azeri, Stackdriver Co-Founder. 'His expertise in reaching millions of engineers around the world has already proven invaluable.'
