Speek.com Announces $1.2M Seed Round
2012-12-12
WASHINGTON, DC, Conference calling platform announced it has secured a $1.2 million round in seed-stage funding.
Speek.com, super simple conference calling, today announced it has secured a $1.2 million round in seed-stage funding. The round was jointly led by several early-stage venture funds.
Speek is a super simple, free and visual conference platform that uses a personal link (i.e., http://speek.com/YourName), instead of a phone number and PIN for conference calls. Participants click the Speek link to start or join a call from their phone, web or mobile browser, via VOIP, or SMS. There is nothing to download and no elevator music. Once on the call, users can see who's joined, who's talking, share files, use call controls and more.
Since its beta launch in June, Speek has experienced rapid growth reaching tens of thousands of callers in a few short months. The funding comes on the heels of Speek's recent win at Distilled Intelligence 2.0, the pitch competition created by Fortify.vc and sponsored by Microsoft, as well as acceptance into start-up accelerators 500 Startups and AOL's Fishbowl Labs.
Speek is the next start-up from founders and serial entrepreneurs John Bracken and Danny Boice. John Bracken, CEO, was a co-founder of Evite.com (sold to Ticketmaster in 2001), and a former business development executive at AOL, where he worked on the expansion and growth of AIM and Patch.com. Danny Boice, CTO, is the founder of Jaxara (sold to Pantheon in 2006) and is a former executive at The College Board.
"Conference calls today are a painful experience in a $3 billion market that hasn't innovated in over twenty years," said Speek.com co-founder and CEO John Bracken. "Speek is revolutionizing conference calling by turning a limited telephone-based service into one that is simple, free and in-tune with the next generation of web and mobile services."
"Speek makes conducting a conference call fast and easy," said co-founder and CTO Danny Boice. "No longer do you have to frantically search for a PIN number or wonder who's on the call or who's talking. Nearly ninety-percent of people who have used Speek would be disappointed if our service disappeared."
Speek is available to individuals and small businesses at http://www.speek.com.
