SEATTLE, WA, SpaceCurve raised $2.7 million to fund the development of big data solutions that address growing market demands for real-time location-based services. Investors in the financings include Reed Elsevier Ventures, Divergent Ventures and Musea Ventures.
SpaceCurve today announced it has raised $2.7 million to fund the development of big data solutions that address growing market demands for real-time location-based services. Technology industry veteran, John Slitz, has joined as CEO to lead the company's growth. Investors in the recently completed series of financings include Reed Elsevier Ventures, Divergent Ventures and Musea Ventures.
"As Hadoop, NoSQL and relational vendors stretch their technologies in an attempt to solve real-time big data problems for large and complex data sets, they are opening market opportunities for SpaceCurve," said Slitz. "The ability to instantaneously handle the scale and complexity of geospatial, temporal, network and machine-generated sensor data requires the new spatial-temporal database that we have created and is the basis for our new product offerings."
Slitz brings more than 30 years of technology industry experience to SpaceCurve. He was CEO of Systems Research and Development, which was acquired by IBM where he served as general manager of the IBM Threat and Fraud Intelligence business unit. Prior to IBM and SRD, Slitz was senior vice president of marketing at Novell where he led the launch of NetWare 5. At SpaceCurve, Slitz will set the company's strategic direction, build the management team and manage day-to-day growth.
"SpaceCurve is solving a big data problem that no one is addressing today at a major turning point in the market - the ability to track the locations of entities in space and time as they happen, and immediately identify the relationships between them," said Tony Askew, general partner at Reed Elsevier Ventures, a leading Big Data investor. "With John joining Andrew Rogers, founder, CTO and big data expert, we are adding what SpaceCurve needs to capture this tremendous market opportunity: proven strategic and management success growing technology companies."
About SpaceCurve
SpaceCurve is creating a new spatial-temporal database and graph analysis tools for big data. By providing the ability to ingest and analyze large geospatial, geotemporal, sensor and network data sets and create real-time actionable intelligence, SpaceCurve will enable new opportunities in location-based services, social applications, commodities, defense, emergency services and other markets. Unlike relational, NoSQL and other traditional databases that handle either scale or complexity, but not both, SpaceCurve's new database addresses the growing demand for new geospatial applications and intelligent location-based services that current database technologies cannot handle.
