Prezi, the zooming presentation software, announced today that it has closed $14 million in Series B financing led by Accel Partners.
Prezi's fun, visually-engaging approach to presentations has attracted a rapidly expanding global customer base of over 7 million registered users. (For the company's historical timeline, see Prezi's "5 Millionth User" prezi published in October 2011.)
Known primarily for its cloud-based online presentation software, Prezi also offers Prezi Desktop for offline editing, Prezi Meeting for real-time collaboration, and the Prezi Viewer iPad app, which has climbed steadily in both use and user rating since its launch less than a year ago. It is now one of iTunes' top 10 free productivity apps.
Cash-flow positive since its first year of operation, Prezi has experienced unabated growth, attracting over 5 million of their 7 million registered users within the last year alone. The company will use the cash raised in this round to further accelerate this growth: aggressively hiring top talent, expanding its offering across multiple platforms, and widening its global reach.
"Sharing ideas should be fun!" says Prezi CEO, Peter Arvai. "Prezi is a great way of sharing ideas where both the big picture and small details matter. Business people and educators around the world are using Prezi to engage people in a deeper exchange of ideas and to ensure that those ideas have a lasting impact. We're excited to leverage Accel's extensive experience growing businesses."
According to Accel's Andrew Braccia, who led the investment and will be joining Prezi's board of directors, "The growth of web services is fundamentally altering the traditionally bundled environments of packaged software. Today's users want best-of-breed software that makes an impact in the lives of professionals and educators around the world. Prezi is redefining the presentation and communication landscape with its leading suite of online productivity software. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to join such an exceptional group of entrepreneurs."
The Series B also includes renewed participation by Sunstone Capital, who led the company's $1.5 million Series A in syndication with TED Conferences in 2009.
Prezi's advocates include thought leaders in industries where visual communication is key to success:
Prezi is helping reinvent the art of presentation. Farewell, one-dimensional thinking. Welcome instead the power of inter-connection, flexibility, and the unexpected 'Aha!' - Chris Anderson, curator of TED Conferences.
Prezi has a marvellous approach to the visualisation of information -- the freshest I've seen since the 1980s -- and certainly has the potential to gain shares over PowerPoint. - Rob Campbell, co-founder of PowerPoint. Ref: Eddy, K. (2011, November). Prophet of Zoom. CNBC.
Prezi truly embodies what creativity is about: changing your perspective, connecting and combining ideas, thinking in non-linear ways, and creating in collaboration with others. - Leticia Britos Cavagnaro, Ph.D., Adjunct Faculty, Stanford d.school
