SAO PAULO, BRAZIL, Startup is streamlining the traditional supply chain in order to make quality design furniture much more affordable to all Brazilians.
Sao Paulo based Oppa.com.br has announced that the company has raised a total of $13 million from Peter Thiel's Valar Ventures, Monashees Capital, Kaszek Ventures, Thrive Capital, and Micky Malka, among others.

"Successful entrepreneurs are able to find creative solutions to intractable problems," said Peter Thiel. "Through their innovative business model and creative supply chain management, Oppa is bringing beautifully designed and affordable furniture across Brazil."

This marks Peter Thiel's first investment in a Brazilian startup.

Launched in 2011 by Max Reichel, the startup is streamlining the traditional supply chain in order to make quality design furniture much more affordable to all Brazilians. The company offers a range of self-branded household products developed by its in-house design team, and also works closely with young and experienced talent to constantly source ideas for innovative new products. Through Oppa's website, www.oppa.com.br , designers can submit ideas for new projects which, once accepted, are brought to life in collaboration with the company's development team.

Its products have been very well received by the public and design experts. The colorful wooden "Uma" chair from Oppa's first collection won the IDEA/Brasil (Industrial Design Excellence Awards), one of Brazil's most important design awards.

"We were surprised at the uptake of our first collections and the demand of the Brazilian customer for accessible, Brazilian design. With this capital, we intend to expand our portfolio, working closer with various designers, internally and externally. We'll also invest in customer service, to ensure Oppa is always our customers' first choice, and in factory relationships, as this is an integral part of the company," said Reichel.
