Mob Science, Inc., an early Zynga Platform partner and the developer behind more than a dozen popular social games, today announced it has received $1 million in seed funding from Joyent CEO David Young, GameSpy Industries founder Mark Surfas, and other angel investors.

Mob Science operates hit Facebook applications including inFamous Anarchy, Coffee Bar, Snowball Fight, Willy's Sweet Shop and several others, collectively totaling more than 50 million installs on the social networking platform. The company's upcoming title is a mid-core Role Playing Game in the fantasy genre and will be among the first third-party apps published on the Zynga Platform. As an early Zynga Platform partner, Mob Science will be able to promote its new game to the 240 million monthly active users who currently play Zynga games. Zynga will also grant Mob Science access to channels and features that increase social engagement, analytics that measure and drive social, and back end technology that ensures scalability and availability.

Mob Science will use the financing to invest more aggressively in its product development and to hire key talent including game designers, product managers, engineers and other important positions. The company has also signed a lease to move its current team of ten employees into a new office space in Carlsbad, located in the north county of San Diego.

As part of the funding, David Young joins Mob Science's Board of Directors. A seasoned executive and entrepreneur, Mr. Young co-founded Joyent in 2004 and grew the company into a global provider of cloud computing and software systems. "We really like the Mob Science team and everything they've done," said Mr. Young. "It is clear that they create fantastic consumer gaming experiences, and that they know how to engage with their users and get them to keep coming back. But what really impressed us was their vision for tapping into the Zynga Platform and really pushing the envelope for what social games can be."
