MasteryConnect Receives $3.425M

2014-03-06
SALT LAKE CITY, UT, Education technology provider MasteryConnect today announced the company has received an additional $3.425 million in funding.
Education technology provider MasteryConnect today announced the company has received an additional $3.425 million in funding from its original Series A investors. The new funds will enable MasteryConnect to accelerate adoption of its mastery learning platform in K-12 schools.

As with MasteryConnect's original $4.1 million Series A funds in January 2013, the new investment was led by Catamount Ventures, with participation from the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation, Deborah Quazzo of GSV Advisors, Learn Capital, and returning Silicon Valley angel investors. The additional funds bring MasteryConnect's Series A total to $8.975 million.

'Catamount Ventures is excited to accelerate MasteryConnect's already rapid growth in putting mastery learning tools in the hands of teachers,' said Catamount Ventures partner Tory Patterson. 'MasteryConnect is enabling a new era in education where real-time information about student mastery of standards is empowering teachers and improving student outcomes.'

The funding comes on the heels of a year of milestones for MasteryConnect, which now has a registered teacher in more than 36,000 K-12 schools across 10,000 districts. To date, those teachers have collectively tracked more than 18 million scores for mastery of both state and Common Core standards.

'We're excited to be able to expand the work we are doing, empowering teachers to identify what students know and don't know, and provide timely interventions in their classrooms,' said Mick Hewitt, CEO and co-founder of MasteryConnect.

The past year also saw the release of MasteryConnect's groundbreaking new Mastery Report Card and Resource Pins that allow teachers to find and share standards-aligned resources and materials. MasteryConnect also released its Next Generation Science Standards app in partnership with the National Science Teachers Association, and its popular Common Core app is fast approaching one million downloads. Most recently, MasteryConnect became a featured app partner with Microsoft Education.
