An online platform that uses users' social connections to build a credit rating and access local financial services has raised $6 million for its efforts to expand globally.
Lenddo, based in Malaki City, Philippines, raised the money from existing investors, as well as new investors like Globe Telecom's Kickstart Ventures, Golden Gate Ventures, and Skype co-founder Toivo Annus. The funds will be used to accelerate an aggresive global rollout, with Latin America and Southeast Asia as particular targets.
Lenddo's mission is to economically empower the middle class in developing countries. The company has 350,000 members, and currently provides loans in Columbia, Mexico, and the Philippines.
