Kitchfix Lands $300K

2014-06-12
CHICAGO, IL, Healthy meal delivery service announced that it has closed a $300,000 seed round.
Kitchfix (formerly known as CJK Foods), the healthy meal delivery service that creates and delivers chef-crafted, ready-to-eat delicious meals for busy professionals and families using locally sourced, organic, gluten, soy and dairy-free ingredients, today announced that it has closed a $300,000 seed round of financing. The strategic round led by Ken Leonard, a local angel investor and the initial investor in Protein Bar, allows Kitchfix to expand its team and accelerate its rapid growth. Other prominent Chicago-area angel investors participated in the round.
'Most people don't realize that it is possible to go online and order flavorful and creative meals that contain organic, anti-inflammatory ingredients, grass-fed beef, pasture-raised chicken and pork, and sustainable seafood and have them delivered straight to their doorstop for a very reasonable price,' said investor Ken Leonard. 'Kitchfix is already a local leader with a good head start in a new industry where convenience, nutrition and lifestyle all merge.'
The funding will be used in part to move the growing Kitchfix team into a significantly larger workspace with upgraded equipment and a storefront to better serve its growing customer base. The company has signed a lease for 4,987 square feet of commercial kitchen and office space located at 1731 W. Grand Ave. in Chicago and plans to move into the new space by October, 2014.
'We're now poised for a new stage of growth that will enable us to deliver even more value to our customers,' said Chef Josh Katt, CEO and founder of Kitchfix. 'Our investors have a proven track record and share our vision of making healthy food readily available to busy on-the-go superfoodies.'
Kitchfix sources many ingredients locally including some peppers, tomatoes and swiss chard from its own rooftop garden. The company sources its pasture-raised meats from Gunthorp Farms and Hoosier Ranch, both from Indiana. Kitchfix meals can be ordered online in medium and large sizes priced at $12 and $15 respectively. The menu rotates weekly and is available here. The company has recently expanded its lunch and dinner offerings to include ready-to-eat breakfast items, sides, smoothies and snacks.
