WOODSTOCK, VT, Market leader for nature and outdoor lifestyle mobile apps, today announced the completion of a $1.5 million convertible note fundraising round.
Green Mountain Digital, the market leader for nature and outdoor lifestyle mobile apps, today announced the completion of a $1.5 million convertible note fundraising round as it rebrands the company as NatureShare. The funding was raised rapidly from new and previous angel investors, including a follow-on investment from the Vermont Center for Emerging Technologies' Vermont Seed Capital Fund.
NatureShare is the publisher of the award-winning Audubon Guides mobile field guide series created in alliance with the National Audubon Society, which includes the bestselling Audubon Birds of North America app. NatureShare's other app partners include The Orvis Company, Gardener's Supply Company, and Sailing World Magazine. Since the beginning of 2012, the company doubled its number of registered users and tripled its installed base of downloaded apps to over 750,000. In response to the clear increase in interest in the vertical, NatureShare is developing a new social platform to meet the demands of this engaged outdoors audience. With this new round of funding, NatureShare will launch its social platform this fall, as well as continue to improve and add to its existing catalog of apps. The funding will also be used to build out its technology team.
"Since our founding, we've been dedicated to providing people who love the outdoors with innovative applications that enhance their appreciation of nature and wildlife," said Brendan Cahill, CEO of NatureShare. "Now, as NatureShare, we'll be connecting people to the outdoors as never before, through a web and mobile community that will enable members to explore and share their experiences wherever they are."
Joining NatureShare's board of directors is David McGowan. McGowan is the CEO of Invitel, a digital triple-play service provider based in Budapest, Hungary serving residential, business, and government customers. An experienced media and telecommunications executive in the United States and Europe, McGowan is also the chairman of the Woodstock Digital Media Festival, held annually in Woodstock, VT.
"NatureShare is a forward-thinking company, poised to change the way people interact with nature and the outdoors through technology, and I'm pleased to be on board with the company at this exciting time," remarked David McGowan.
