Gradient.io Raises $3.5M in Seed Capital
2018-10-27
SEATTLE, WA, Gradient.io has raised $3.5 million in a seed capital round, led by Flying Fish Partners.
Gradient.io, the pioneer in applying machine learning to help marketers drive sales performance on Amazon, announced today it has raised $3.5 million in seed capital to scale its platform. The round was led by Flying Fish Partners with participation from PSL Ventures, MDC Ventures and Black Jays Investments.
"Consumers can now move from product search to purchase at the touch of a button, which means brands must win the 'digital shelf' where decisions are being made," said Bobby Figueroa, Founder and CEO Gradient.io. "We designed our solution to measure a brand's digital presence against the category and competition, then we apply these insights and machine learning to influence and increase sales."
With 55% of online shoppers starting product searches on Amazon, digital pointÂ--of-Â-sale marketing is rapidly becoming one the most important frontiers where brand marketers must compete. To help brands navigate this complex ecosystem, Gradient.io brings together the specialized expertise of a former Amazon executive and a leading direct-Â-toÂ--consumer brand engineer with machine-Â-learning, proprietary technology and algorithms that analyze thousands of data points across the marketing mix to maximize digital presence, conversion rates and sales.
"With a mall in everyone's pocket, everywhere becomes a point of sale," said lead investor Frank Chang, Partner at Flying Fish. "Brands need more power to appear at just the right moment for consumers, and Gradient's solutions are making that happen. It's Digital Marketing 3.0."
"Amazon has leveled the playing field for incumbent and emerging brands alike. It's an entirely new way of thinking about your category," said Jessica PeltzÂ--Zatulove, Partner at MDC Ventures. "There is a sense of urgency to have context around market share and competitive tracking to defend your digital shelf in real time. This transparency is critical to maximizing performance in a dynamic channel like Amazon."
Prior to founding Gradient, Figueroa led Amazon's Advertising Global Operations team, where he helped brand marketers optimize their Amazon spending in a more transparent, scalable, and efficient way. Together with CTO Vikram Oberoi, former VP Engineering at Harry's, they are poised to influence the way billions of dollars are spent to drive purchase decisions.
"We're solving a technology problem," added Figueroa. "By enhancing media and e-commerce investments with machine learning we can help brands better understand their health in a channel, determine their brand presence, derive insights from shoppers, and maximize sales. Our proprietary framework and platform is delivering meaningful and insightful results for brands, allowing them to reach unprecedented growth within Amazon."
"Brands spend $225 billion every year to market their products at offline points-of-Â-sale," said Mike Galgon, Managing Director at Pioneer Square Labs, the SeattleÂ--based startup studio that Figueroa partnered with to build Gradient. "Spending online is vastly more complex; brands need sophisticated technology and techniques to win the online consumer. Gradient's machine learning technology helps brands to do just that."
