CAMBRIDGE, MA, According to SEC filings, Fotonauts Inc. has reported a $2.5 million equity funding that involves new MIT Media Lab director Joi Ito and Ignition Partners' Brad Silverberg.

Fotonauts Inc. created the first collaborative photo encyclopedia, Fotopedia. In cooperation with the UNESCO World Heritage Centre, Heritage for iPad and iPhone was released in August 2010. The visually stunning downloadable app provides a virtual passport to celebrate the beauty of our world. The free app has attracted approximately one million users in two months.

The company' s founder and CEO, Jean-Marie Hullot, is the former CTO of Apple Computer Inc.' s Applications Division. Privately-held, the company is funded by Ignition Partners, Banexi Ventures Partners and investors including SoftTech VC' s Jeff Clavier, Joi Ito, Ron Conway, Reid Hoffman and Saul Klein.
