CloudBees Buzzes With $10.5M Series B

2011-07-25
CloudBees has closed on $10.5 million in Series B financing led by Lightspeed Venture Partners. Matrix Partners also participated in the round.
WALTHAM, MA, CloudBees, the Java PaaS innovation leader, today announced that it has received $10.5 million in Series B financing, led by Lightspeed Venture Partners. Matrix Partners also participated in the round, following up its initial lead investment in the company's $4 million Series A, which also included JBoss alumni Robert Bickel and Marc Fleury.

CloudBees currently lists Matrix's Waltham, MA offices as its headquarters.

The new funds will be used to accelerate the rollout of additional product capabilities and expand marketing and sales for CloudBees' innovative platform to manage the entire Java application lifecycle in the cloud. John Vrionis, Managing Director at Lightspeed, will join the board that also includes David Skok from Matrix Partners, and Robert Bickel and Sacha Labourey from CloudBees.

"Lightspeed is developing a rich cloud computing portfolio, and we recognize that CloudBees is in a unique position to transform the Java application world with the rapid and widespread adoption of its platform," said Lightspeed's Vrionis. "They have built the first end-to-end production-ready Java platform for the cloud, and they are already demonstrating that their technology has a positive impact on the way that businesses build and deploy Java applications."

Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) is the software infrastructure needed to run applications in the cloud; in simplest terms, it is middleware for the cloud. CloudBees DEV@cloud provides the fully integrated development infrastructure while RUN@cloud provides the 'application server' in the cloud. With the CloudBees PaaS, developers have everything they need to quickly and easily develop and deploy applications in the cloud - without having to purchase, configure and maintain hardware and without having to program applications for a specific underlying infrastructure service (IaaS).

"Since our launch and initial funding in November of 2010, we have been heads down in the effort to deliver critical, first-to-market innovations for cloud-based Java development and deployment," said Sacha Labourey, CEO, CloudBees. "We believe we have accomplished this with our PaaS platform and its unique DEV@cloud and RUN@cloud components that turbo-charge developer productivity and streamline Java application deployment with cost efficiencies that have never before been achieved. We have experienced great traction to date with our early customers and felt now was the right time to invest further in our products, our markets, and in our brand awareness."

About CloudBees, Inc.

CloudBees (www.cloudbees.com) is the only cloud company focused on servicing the complete Java application lifecycle for cloud development and deployment - without any servers, any virtual machines or any IT staff. The CloudBees platform today includes DEV@cloud, a service that lets developers take their build and test environments to the cloud, and RUN@cloud, which lets teams seamlessly deploy these applications to production on the cloud. CloudBees is also the world's premier expert on Jenkins, the most widely used continuous integration server. The company offers a Jenkins service as part of DEV@cloud, as well as an on-premise enterprise solution, Nectar, which is available as a subscription. Backed by Matrix Partners and Lightspeed Venture Partners, CloudBees was founded in 2010 by former JBoss CTO Sacha Labourey and an elite technology team.
