Chameleon Announces $1.9M Seed Round

2016-04-21
SAN FRANCISCO, CA, Tech startup Chameleon Intelligent Tech Inc. today announced its seed funding round led by True Ventures.
Chameleon enables teams to easily build, deploy and optimize in-product tours for their users without writing code. This gives product, customer success and marketing managers greater control over user onboarding, solving a pain point for every company with limited engineering resources.

'Millions of people sign up for products every day, but only a fraction of them become active users. Most end up confused and searching help guides or watching tutorial videos. With Chameleon, we are making it easy for teams to guide new users through key actions,' said Pulkit Agrawal, Chameleon's co-founder and CEO.

Chameleon raised a $1.9 million seed round led by True Ventures, with participation from Maiden Lane, Vast VC and notable angels, such as Auren Hoffman (founder of Liveramp) and Sheel Mohnot (Partner at 500 startups), to fuel the development and rollout of the web platform.

Chameleon has been in private beta over the past few months, working with customers such as Urban Airship and BloomReach, and last month moved into open beta.

'In the past, feature tours were expensive for us to build and maintain, which prevented us from educating our customers within the product as much as we'd like,' said Greg Weinger, Product Line Manager at Urban Airship. 'With Chameleon, we've been able to quickly create and update tours, and even see the analytics in Kissmetrics. Many of our customer-facing teams, especially Support, are excited we're using Chameleon.'

Some of the key problems facing many teams that are solved with Chameleon are:

-Onboarding too large a project, which requires lots of time
-Engineering resources unavailable to build testable user onboarding
-No platform for user activation part of funnel (unlike tools for acquisition, retention, re-engagement and referrals)

Tammy Sanders, Training Manager at BloomReach, said: 'Using Chameleon has provided us an excellent opportunity to scale customized learning like never before. We're also really enjoying working with the Chameleon team -- they are very supportive, knowledgeable and solution-oriented.'

Over time, Chameleon will also provide unique insights to each customer on what they should change in their onboarding to further improve their user conversion rates.

'Products become much more engaging when they are contextual -- when they cater to the specific user and don't just present a generic interface. With Chameleon, we're helping customers provide this without the technical complexity that would otherwise be needed to build this in-house,' said Brian Norton, Chameleon's co-founder and CTO.

Chameleon can be used by any organization with a web platform that would like to improve new user activation, feature discovery or deep learning. Chameleon also helps reduce repeat support requests and make sales demos more scalable.

'Pulkit and Brian are two promising and innovative Founders,' said Puneet Agarwal, Partner at True Ventures. 'Chameleon is solving a huge problem in the software space, and we are very excited to see their platform take off.'
