PALO ALTO, CA, Box today launched the Box Innovation Network (/bin), a new program designed to foster innovation in enterprise software. /bin consists of leading developer communities and diverse platform partners including Appcelerator, Cloud Foundry, Heroku, Rackspace, SnapLogic, and Twilio. In addition to working with platform partners, Box is investing up to two million dollars in fund money for /bin members chosen to support the growth and development of future enterprise applications built on the Box platform.

"Slow-moving enterprise software giants have produced very little innovation in recent years, and their closed ecosystems have made it all but impossible for outside players to create compelling experiences for customers on legacy systems," said Aaron Levie, co-founder and CEO of Box. "We're changing all of that - and we're doing so in ways that platforms like Microsoft simply cannot - by creating an open ecosystem of leading partners to enable developers to build and deploy Box applications instantly and on any platform."

The Box platform host hundreds of integrated apps and receives 200 million calls to its APIs each month. Specifically, mobile has seen massive growth with a 30x increase in the volume of mobile enterprise deployments at the close of Q3 2011 compared to the close of Q3 2010. The company also continues to field requests for custom-built applications coming from its customer base with successful deployments built this year for Pabst Brewing Company, DOW Chemical, and National Equity Fund (NEF). /bin creates a community that supports developers as they work to build enterprise-grade apps that will meet these business demands and transform the industry.

The Mission Behind /bin

At it's core, /bin is structured around its direct partner and member connections. A /bin member will build on the Box platform to deliver products that address the needs in enterprise software. A /bin partner will provide the members with the tools and services they will need to build robust applications using the Box APIs, but building on top of any of the partner platforms.

Box designed /bin to provide developers with the right resources and services to build new features and functionality on the Box platform. /bin will foster an elite community that provides direct support, contacts and funding for developers and companies to build innovative enterprise technology in the cloud. By teaming up with partners, Box is creating a vibrant ecosystem on its open platform to spark a level of innovation in the enterprise that mirrors what users have seen from development in the consumer platform space.

Real Money for Real Innovation

To rally developers to build next-generation enterprise applications on the Box platform, the company will invest up to two million dollars in fund money within the first year of the /bin launch. The funding will go towards equity investments, intellectual property acquisitions, and co-development of enterprise products.

This investment is part of the company's continued focus on building the smarter enterprise. In 2011, Box has seen tremendous traction with enterprise adoption in 100,000 businesses, including 77% of the Fortune 500. CIO's from across the business landscape are entering a new era of enterprise IT, powered by unprecedented data growth, mobility and cloud collaboration platforms. As customers continue to invest in rapidly deploying mobile and cloud technologies, Box and other cloud solutions are poised for success. The company has raised a total of $162M in venture capital to fuel its investment in building out the enterprise ecosystem.
