WESTBOROUGH, MA, Aciex Therapeutics Inc., a developer of eye-focused treatments, has raised $8 million in an equity offering, according to documents filed with the SEC.

The regulatory filing did not name the investors behind the $8 million round. Last week, however, Aciex announced that Akorn Inc., an Illinois pharmaceutical firm, made an undisclosed investment to gain a minority stake.

Aciex was formed in 2007 with a single focus: to create and drive shareholder value by building a sustainable Rx ophthalmic franchise.
