Venture Capital News: Ambra Health Secures Additional $6M
2016-09-14
NEW YORK, NY, DICOM Grid, makers of the leading cloud-based, medical image management suite, announced it is changing its name to Ambra Health and has secured an additional $6M in funding.
DICOM Grid, makers of the leading cloud-based, medical image management suite, today announced it is changing its name to Ambra Health and has secured an additional $6M in funding, led by venture firm Canaan Partners, to bring total funding to $39M. Ambra plans to use the new funds to ramp up sales and marketing efforts and accelerate product development. To that end, Ambra adds Ed Marshall as Chief Product Officer and launches Think RADical, an advisory series of in-person and online events designed to help healthcare leaders drive innovation in medical imaging to transform patient care. The first of these Think RADical events will be held in New York City on September 29, 2016. Learn more at www.ambrahealth.com/thinkRADical.
The name change, new brand, and funding reflects the dynamic growth of Ambra Health to date and secures its leadership position as it continues on its mission to deliver innovative medical image management solutions for the future of healthcare. Ambra's banner year included repeating its win of the prestigious KLAS award for best medical image exchange vendor for the second year in a row. It also added marquee healthcare providers to its customer-base such as Stanford Children's Health, Weill Cornell, Lahey Hospital & Medical Center, Jefferson Radiology, New England Baptist Hospital, and CareWell Urgent Care.
Over 750 healthcare providers share images using the Ambra Health network today, resulting in 750,000+ user logins per month from across 50+ countries worldwide, an astounding growth of 500% year-over-year. The strong traction among leading providers is a testament to the power of the Ambra platform to serve as the backbone of innovation and progress for health care networks-enabling the development of new patient services, building network preference, creating new revenue streams, and eliminating costly technical barriers that hamper diagnostic breakthroughs and the delivery of better patient care.
'Medical imaging is undergoing a transformation well beyond its beginnings in DICOM-based x-rays, CT, MRI and the like,' said Morris Panner, CEO of Ambra Health. 'Non-DICOM imaging and other large dataset of medical information are emerging at the same time that healthcare networks are expanding at a rapid pace, making what happens to a patient outside the hospital as important as what happens inside the hospital. Both these drivers call for innovation in medical data and image management and play a key part in our product vision, which is why we felt the time was right to change our name from DICOM Grid to Ambra Health as we help usher in your medical imaging cloud for the future of healthcare.'
To lead Ambra's powerful medical image management platform into the future, Ambra adds Ed Marshall as Chief Product Officer. Before Ambra, Ed held roles as SVP and GM of the Services Industry business unit at NetSuite, as well as VP Sales and Marketing for OpenAir, which was acquired by NetSuite. Across these roles, he ensured NetSuite's position as the #1 Professional Services Automation solution on the market. Prior to NetSuite and OpenAir, Ed was a management consultant at Bain & Company, and an engineer at General Electric.
Finally, to help guide healthcare leaders through their medical image management strategy and make sense of the top trends in digital health technology, Ambra launches Think RADical, an advisory series of online and in-person events focused on driving innovation in medical imaging. The first Think RADical event will take place on September 29, 2016 in New York City at the Four Seasons Hotel, beginning at 1:30pm and ending at 6:30pm with a networking reception. The speaker lineup will feature physician leaders from New York Presbyterian, Weill Cornell, Mount Sinai Health System, University of Maryland School of Medicine, the Radiology Society of North America (RSNA), the Advisory Board Company, as well as the healthcare practice of venture firm, Canaan Partners. Core topics to be covered include perspectives on the future of radiology as it breaks out of the 'dark room', commercializing innovation in healthcare, and interoperability across health networks.
