2012-08-28
SAN FRANCISCO, CA, Provider of web application testing solutions for enterprise developers, today announced the closing of a $3 million Series B funding round led by Triage Ventures.
Sauce Labs, Inc., the leading provider of web application testing solutions for enterprise developers, today announced the closing of a $3 million Series B funding round led by Triage Ventures. Salesforce.com also joined as an investor in the Series B round. The company also today announced the public availability of a new mobile web application testing cloud for Mac OS X, iOS and Android environments that will help slash the cost and time-to-market for iPad, iPhone and some Android device applications.
Sauce Labs offers automated and manual testing services for web applications. The company's popular Sauce OnDemand and Sauce Scout solutions are used by some of the largest consumer and enterprise brands. The Sauce OnDemand testing cloud is already used to run approximately one million tests each month with that number continuing to grow.
By expanding its solutions to support the Mac OS X platform, Sauce Labs becomes the first to provide Mac developers an automated, enterprise-class testing cloud that leverages virtualization for iOS applications. The new testing capabilities will reduce to just hours or days the testing and debugging process for applications for the iPad and iPhone. By virtualizing OS X in the cloud, Sauce Labs can offer superior security to its users.
"Today marks a major advancement in the development of applications for the Mobile Web. With our new support for OS X, iOS, and Android web browsers, consumers will enjoy new apps faster and at a lower cost because of our innovation," Jason Huggins, CTO of Sauce Labs, said. "Until now, web developers had no other enterprise-class options but to build and maintain costly testing infrastructures for mobile platforms. Our Sauce testing cloud is one of the fastest, most secure and best ways for organizations to ship mobile web applications faster and at a much lower cost. Developers using Sauce Labs will ship with higher quality, more quickly. And well tested software leads to happier users."
Funding Expansion
Triage Ventures, a boutique venture capital firm based in San Francisco, has had a long relationship with Sauce Labs, having invested in an earlier angel funding round. The Series B marks the firm's second investment in the company. Triage was drawn to Sauce's accelerated growth over the past year and product pipeline, including the breakthrough mobile web testing cloud.
"In working with Sauce Labs, we have seen firsthand the creative and forward-thinking approach the team takes to meeting the needs of their customers," Doug Derwin, of Triage Ventures, said. "We wanted to expand our relationship and support their long-term vision. We look forward to a valuable relationship with Sauce Labs."
"Our new round of investment will be used to increase the size of our testing cloud, support new platforms and build new collaborative debugging tools," John Dunham, CEO of Sauce Labs, said. "Our testing cloud is growing exponentially. We're going to step on the gas and build a bigger business to meet the world's massive demand for cloud-based testing."
New Solution Capabilities
"The key to delivering quality features faster is through thoughtful use of automation," Todd McKinnon, CEO and co-founder of Okta Inc., said. "We chose Sauce Labs' cloud-based functional testing service because their productivity features let our dev team spend more time building great features and less time debugging failed tests. On top of that it's more reliable than we would probably have built ourselves; they support far more browser / OS combinations too."
The Sauce mobile web application testing cloud represents a major advance in the industry. The platform deploys a completely new, highly secure virtual machine (VM) in the cloud for each test. Using unique Sauce technology, VMs can be deployed in seconds rather than minutes or hours, enabling fail tests to complete in minutes rather than days or weeks. The Sauce testing cloud uses Selenium, the world's leading open source testing project, to automate web browsers for testing purpose.
