Signal Data Corporation, a provider of a retail location data and analytics software for financial firms and retailers, today announced that it has secured Series A funding from Atlas Venture that along with existing investors has expanded its Series A round by $2M.

Signal Data also launched Signal Retail, the first product to score the quality of all US retail and restaurant locations based on comprehensive competition, demographics, and local economic conditions. Signal Retail has a roster of high profile clients, including leading hedge funds, mutual funds, pension funds, and a multi-billion dollar retailer. Signal's clients are using its product to invest millions of dollars by estimating the remaining expansion opportunity for retail concepts, assessing the quality of new store openings, and analyzing the impact of competitors' new store openings.

Signal Retail is the first industry product on a multi-industry data and analytical software platform. While most existing financial data platforms repackage SEC and stock price data, all of Signal's products leverage disparate and highly valuable operational data to discover the root causes of companies' profitability by deconstructing companies into their smallest component parts.

Signal's co-founders, Steve Blose and Greg Metro, have brought together their strong hedge fund and private equity investment track record with two experienced financial technology executives, Jeff Parker and Roland Beaulieu. Mssrs. Parker and Beaulieu together have over 60 combined years of financial data executive experience and together have built, scaled and sold First Call, CCBN, and First Coverage. In addition to both investing in Signal, Jeff Parker leads Signal as its Chairman and Roland Beaulieu manages Signal as its CEO.
