Game Closure today announced a Series A financing round of $12 million to fund its advanced HTML5-based cross-platform game technology. The round was led by Highland Capital Partners, with Greylock, Benchmark, General Catalyst, and Charles River Ventures also participating. In conjunction with the financing, Highland's Andy Miller has joined the company's board of directors.
"Game Closure represents the rare opportunity to invest in a company positioned to change the face of an industry," said Andy Miller, General Partner at Highland Capital Partners. "The Game Closure platform will allow gaming studios to build true cross-platform games, in unprecedented development times, with groundbreaking mobile social sharing and virality features."
Game Closure allows publishers to distribute their video games across multiple platforms, including iOS, Android and the browser. Previously, game developers had to develop titles on a single operating system, then subsequently port the source code to other platforms. Such a task would be expensive, time-consuming and unwieldy. Game Closure solves this problem by offering its highly advanced JavaScript game SDK to game developers.
"Our Series A financing was very competitive and gave us the flexibility to think long and hard about which firm and partner we wanted to work with," said Michael Carter, Founder and CEO of Game Closure. "Highland and Andy Miller were the perfect fit and we are continually impressed by the depth of experience and insight that the Highland partners bring to our business."
"In just one year we have grown our team from 3 to 26 engineers from around the world, we raised $12 million from the top investors in Silicon Valley, and we've built the best mobile game engine in the world with HTML5 technology," said Martin Hunt, Co-Founder and CTO of Game Closure. "Our goal has always been to drastically reduce the time it takes to write games for every mobile platform, from 12 months to just 4-6 weeks."
Game Closure was founded in 2011 and participated in StartX, a student-led incubator whose mission is to help develop startups found by Stanford students. The company has since grown to over 26 employees and intends to double in size over the next six months, with a focus on growing its engineering, data analytics, and design teams. It seeks to fill a spectrum of talent, from skills in programming to digital art to big data. For more information, please visit http://
