WATERTOWN, MA, Materials science and advanced engineering firm has raised $18 million in a round of venture capital.
480 Biomedical, a materials science and advanced engineering firm, has raised $18 million in a round of venture capital, according to a new filing by the company with the Securities and Exchange Commission. 11 separate investors participated in the offering.
The 480 Biomedical Stanza scaffold technology combines biocompatible materials with innovative engineering for optimal balance of radial force, flexibility and bioresorbability. The firm's proprietary scaffold is also ideal for controlled delivery of drug for up to several months.
The Stanza scaffold technology supports the lumen while healing occurs, resorbing in about a year. The strength of the scaffold, followed by its resorption, provides the benefits of stenting while avoiding the potential downsides of a permanent implant, including irritation, fracture and difficulty of retreatment.
