2015-06-23
SANTA MONICA, CA, Heal today announced the company has secured $5 million in funding supported by a cadre of technology, health, business and entertainment leaders and investors.
Heal -- the pioneer in on-demand primary healthcare services dedicated to improving the way patients connect with primary care -- today announced the company has secured $5 million in funding supported by a cadre of technology, health, business and entertainment leaders and investors.

Investors in Heal's seed round include: Slow Ventures; March Capital; Pritzker Capital; and numerous renowned angels, including: Dr. Paul Jacobs, Qualcomm Executive Chairman; James Lassiter, founder of Overbrook Entertainment; Stephen Rader, founder of Clarity Partners; Jamie McCourt; Lionel Richie; and Mike Wortsman, former President of Univision.

Heal delivers comprehensive doctor's visits to a patient's home or office in under an hour for $99. Heal will use funding to help expand operations to 15 markets over the next 12 months.

'I created Heal to make life easier for busy parents and adults to get world-class primary care in the comfort, convenience and privacy of their home,' said Dr. Renee Dua, founder of Heal. 'Our vision is to transform primary care into a one-stop Primary Health Solution, where patients can call on Heal at a moment's notice not only for everything a traditional doctor's visit can provide, but also for cutting-edge services and tools that put patients in control of their health like never before.'

Unlike traditional doctor visits, Heal offers unhurried care with doctors spending as much time as needed with each patient. Doctors are available in Los Angeles and San Francisco any time 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., seven days a week for anything a patient might require during a traditional office visit, including an annual physical, blood tests, specialist recommendations, prescription delivery and more. A new advanced booking option allows patients to book a doctor for the next day after hours.

'Heal has a world-class team introducing a new level of innovation to a field where patients and physicians desperately want change,' said Gregory Milken, Managing Director of March Capital Partners. 'We look forward improving to the lives of both with this truly one-of-a-kind service.'

'We are very excited to be involved with Heal,' said Matthew McCall, partner of Pritzker Group Venture Capital. 'Their team is bringing innovation and modern solutions to help everyday families lead better lives through the on-demand economy.'

'As an investor, I had high expectations from Heal, but when my granddaughter was sick, I felt the real power of an exceptionally qualified doctor coming to my home on a Sunday afternoon,' said Michael Wortsman, investor and former President of Univision. 'Not only is Heal how I see a doctor now, but convenient features like prescription delivery make it essential for my busy lifestyle.'

Doctors on Heal deliver a new standard of mobile care using an array of state-of-the-art medical technologies necessary for a modern house call doctor visit, including an AliveCor ECG to deliver near-instant heart health analysis, CellScope otoscope to record HD-quality video inside a patient's ear, and Electronic Medical Records (EMR) to give patients easy access to their medical history.

'Heal's unique understanding of physicians, patients and technology -- guided by Dr. Dua and her team -- is unlocking breakthroughs that are sparking a societal transformation that matters most: our health,' said Dr. Paul E. Jacobs, Executive Chairman of Qualcomm. 'Physicians on Heal deliver personalized healthcare today using cutting edge technology, improving the lives of both the physicians and their patients.'

'Heal shows promise in an industry poised for disruption,' said Stephen Rader, founder of Clarity Partners. 'I look forward to seeing Heal continue to prove how on-demand speed can translate into improved health for the nation.'

'I'm honored to support Dr. Dua's vision as a working mother, doctor and female innovator,' said Jamie McCourt. 'The Heal team is creating a company that will be a game changer for working mothers and physicians who are in need of greater flexibility and access to resources that support quality care.'

'Heal has the opportunity to be more than just an urgent care on wheels,' said Dr. Janani Krishnaswami, Board Certified Physician in Internal and Preventive Medicine, who offers her services on Heal. 'I understand patient's environment and family, and can be a true partner with the family in a way I could never be in a rushed office setting.'

Heal was founded by first-time mom and entrepreneur Dr. Renee Dua, who has surrounded herself with a world-class team of health and technology experts to build and launch Heal. Early angel investors include Qualcomm Executive Chairman Dr. Paul Jacobs, Jamie McCourt and Grammy and Oscar winner Lionel Richie. Advisors include Dr. Bart Wald, Former Regional President of Providence Hospitals and Manan Shah, Vice President of Commercial Strategy for Anthem Blue Cross. Heal won the coveted Moneyball prize at the Montgomery Summit in Los Angeles in March.
