2012-06-26
SAN FRANCISCO, CA, The round in software developer, led by Foundry Group, also includes leading venture firms Baseline, First Round, and Founders Collective.
Pantheon (www.getpantheon.com) today announced it has raised $5 million in Series A funding. The round, led by Foundry Group, also includes leading venture firms Baseline, First Round, and Founders Collective. Pantheon is changing the way companies develop, manage, and scale their websites by delivering a Drupal-based, enterprise-class, content management system in a SaaS model. Companies and organizations like University of California at Berkeley and the American Automotive Association (AAA) are already leveraging Pantheon for its Drupal expertise, reliability, scalability, and cost-effectiveness. Pantheon will use the round to scale the business and support a growing list of customers.
Foundry Group has invested in some of the industry's most innovative companies including, Federated Media, Fitbit, Memeo, MongoLabs, SendGrid, and Zynga. "While many traditional enterprise software verticals (CRM, expense management, customer service) have made the transition to true SaaS platforms, web content management system software has not yet made the transition to a true multi-tenant, scalable SaaS model," said Ryan McIntyre of Foundry Group. "The thriving Drupal ecosystem and the role that Pantheon's founders play in the Drupal, open-source community, were among the key factors that attracted us to Pantheon, as did their growing customer base which includes NBC Universal, AAA and UC Berkeley."
There are numerous services that help individuals manage simple websites, but for companies big and small it is a relative wasteland. Organizations are trapped between two unappealing choices: buying expensive and outdated proprietary on-premise "solutions" or building, and then maintaining, custom software and infrastructure themselves.
Pantheon is a secure, scalable, and extensible content management service based on Drupal, which is already a top technology for enterprise Web CMS. Pantheon makes it easy to rapidly build, deploy, scale and maintain websites that provide meaningful customer experiences. Organizations gain great sites at a fraction of the cost, development, and maintenance overhead, while simultaneously streamlining workflow and collaboration.
"Foundry shares our vision for an integrated and easy to author Web, as seen by their investment portfolio. With their help, we're investing in our team, engaging more customers, and growing our service offerings. We are thrilled to partner with Ryan McIntyre and the Foundry Group. They have a phenomenal reputation and an intuitive grasp of our market," said Zack Rosen, CEO and co-founder of Pantheon.
