GlobeIn is announcing that it has raised $1 million in additional funding from backers Deepak Chopra and former IBM executive Doug Maine, bringing its Series A to $2.1 million total. GlobeIn is also launching its first iOS app today.
GlobeIn's goal is to help artists and craftspeople (who might otherwise be offline) reach a global customer base. To do that, it has built a network of 'Artisan Helpers' who photograph the artisans, record their stories, and help them use the necessary technology. The company says it now sells products created by 'hundreds of artists from over 40 countries.'
Beginning today, shoppers have access to 'Explore the World with Deepak Chopra,' a monthly subscription service akin to BirchBox that features the meditation series from the Chopra Center, curated products from GlobeIn merchants, and their stories. Proceeds from the $29.99 per month box go to supporting artisan activities around the world.
