Venture Capital News: rENIAC Announces Investment
2017-12-18
MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA, rENIAC announces Intel Capital investment to simplify acceleration of Data Center workloads in public and private cloud.
Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) have been recognized for their increasing role in solving performance and analytical problems in Data Centers. rENIAC leverages the power and flexibility of FPGA platforms by providing overriding software solutions that accelerate data and traffic without requiring changes to the application software, and without the user's needing to know the details of designing with and programming FPGAs. The result is predictable workload performance for private and public clouds, made simple.
"Data and Traffic performance are critical elements to meeting response times required for great user experiences and scalability," said Prasanna Sundararajan, CEO of rENIAC. "By accelerating Cassandra databases using our Distributed Data Engine technology, we have demonstrated the benefits by speeding-up critical NoSQL workloads." FPGAs are an essential technology to meet demanding high-performance requirements, but they need software solutions so customers are not forced to change their existing applications to leverage the benefits.
Accelerating data center workloads with Intel technologies and 3rd party-developed solutions is a strategic investment area for Intel Capital, and rENIAC has demonstrated a strong value proposition and customer interest.
"Managing the growth of data without compromising on performance is a key pressing issue facing enterprises," said John Sakamoto, vice president of the Programmable Solutions Group at Intel Corp. and general manager of its Data Center and Communications Division. "rENIAC has taken a unique approach to accelerating data workloads for server infrastructure and database clusters. rENIAC's software can provide a throughput increase of up to 10x vs. alternative implementations. In addition, the company's solution requires no code changes, allowing a seamless transition for customers to easily take advantage of Intel FPGA and advanced memory technologies."
Intel Capital joins existing investors Menlo Ventures, Divergent Ventures, Bullpen Capital, First Star Ventures (FKA Procyon Ventures) and Phison Electronics Corp. Director Don Faria led the investment for Intel Capital.
Matt Pfeil, Co-founder of Datastax, said: "As FPGAs continue to enter mainstream, Cassandra users look forward to increased performance for demanding workloads and look to solutions to upgrade their existing systems. rENIAC provides promising innovations for the community."
