BOSTON, MA, Lola Travel Co., the new startup from Kayak founder Paul English, has raised $15 million from seven undisclosed investors.
According to Boston Business Journal, a regulatory filing indicates that Lola Travel is looking to raise $25 million in the round. Lola Travel raised $19.7 million in a Series A round in April, including funds that English had previously raised for his startup incubator Blade and new money from General Catalyst Partners and Accel Partners.
In 2014, English left the travel-search site Kayak and founded Blade. Kayak had been acquired by Priceline (Nasdaq: PCLN) for $1.8 billion in 2012. He later turned Blade into Lola Travel, which connects consumers to travel agents through a smartphone app, with the idea of making travel booking even simpler.
Microsoft Bing Travel executive Krista Pappas joined Lola in 2016 as vice president of Lola's membership program. Joel Cutler of General Catalyst and Harry Nelis of Accel are on the company's board.
In late 2015, English told the Business Journal that Lola Travel had 30 employees and expected to have 250 by the end of 2016. It's unclear whether the startup has been able to keep pace with that projection; Lola Travel did not immediately return a request for comment.
In September, English told the travel news site Skift that Lola Travel was in stage one as a company. He said stage two would involve a U.S. call center, and later stages would include international expansion.
