Venture Capital News: Eastwind Network Inks $5.5M
2016-07-19
SALT LAKE CITY, UT, Eastwind Networks today announced a $5.5M seed extension round led by Signal Peak Ventures.
Eastwind Networks, a provider of a hybrid network breach detection system designed specifically to meet the needs of government agencies and enterprise IT security teams, today announced a $5.5M seed extension round led by Signal Peak Ventures. Cybersecurity Investments, LLC also participated in the latest round, bringing total seed funding for the Utah cybersecurity startup to $6.5M.
The additional capital will be utilized for product development and R&D, as well as expanding its sales and marketing departments to meet increased demand for its solution.
The funding comes on the heels of the company's announcements of both breach detection for universities and a managed service partner program. Eastwind Networks has been built from the ground up to provide innovative breach detection for the enterprise and government sectors, and has experienced strong organic growth in these vertical markets via a robust channel and MSP go-to-market distribution program.
'Eastwind Networks is leading a new approach to tackling the complexity of the modern cybersecurity paradigm,' said Ron Heinz, founding and managing director at Signal Peak Ventures. 'Enterprises and government agencies are looking for a new way forward in the 21st century security landscape -- Eastwind goes beyond inside perimeter protections to catch hackers before they commit a breach, and that is precisely where most other security products fail. We believe in their approach to differentiation from other cybersecurity competitors, and more importantly, we believe in the leadership team led by Paul Kraus and the team he has assembled.'
Powered by Eastwind Breach Detection and available via the Eastwind Cloud or in the customer's private cloud, the Eastwind solution uses rich data, behavioral analytics and threat intelligence to pinpoint anomalous behaviors even before they're classified as breaches. Eastwind was designed to catch hackers during the weeks and months that they spend in the network -- before they take action. Storing and mining more than a year's worth of rich network metadata, Eastwind surpasses the competition by examining not only current network conditions, but continually analyzing historical data against updated threat sources to find breaches that would have otherwise gone unnoticed.
'We're excited that Signal Peak Ventures continues to support our vision,' said Paul Kraus, CEO and president of Eastwind Networks. 'A proactive, scalable and reliable breach detection platform is a critical component in any comprehensive cybersecurity strategy. Online intruders don't sleep and by providing continuous monitoring in all network environments, Eastwind Networks catches suspicious activity before breaches happen.'
