Venture Capital News: VideoCare Raises Seed Funding
2013-04-23
MENLO PARK, CA, Developer of cloud-managed remote senior care technology, announced today that Aphelion Capital and California Technology Ventures have provided seed equity funding.
VideoCare, Inc., a developer of cloud-managed remote senior care technology, announced today that Aphelion Capital and California Technology Ventures have provided seed equity funding. This funding will drive VideoCare's expansion with partners in senior care markets, including non-medical home care, home health care, and facility care. VideoCare has already partnered with over two dozen leading providers in these markets since the company was officially announced in November of 2012.
VideoCare has developed a system that allows remote caregivers (both family members and professionals) to provide face-to-face support and companionship to seniors. Because an estimated 70% of people over the age of 75 do not use computers, the VideoCare system is designed so that the care recipient does not need any technical skills. The care recipient interacts with an extremely simple interface on a touch-screen system. There is no keyboard or mouse. All management of the system is handled remotely by the caregiver via the web. VideoCare goes way beyond video calls, allowing remote caregivers to manage reminders for medications and other activities of daily living. Remote medical staff can also track vital statistics from connected wireless medical devices. The VideoCare system even acts as an entertainment hub, giving elderly users access to photos, videos, and music.
"Aphelion Capital and California Technology Ventures are great partners," said David Trescot, CEO of VideoCare. "Their expertise in supporting medical systems companies is proving invaluable, and they are a welcome addition to our board."
"Care for the elderly is a field that is rapidly growing with our aging population," said Ned Scheetz, Managing Director of Aphelion Capital. "We are excited about VideoCare's innovative approach to creating a remote care platform that can be used by both families and professional caregivers."
