Venture Capital News: Zipwhip Raises $5M Series B
2015-01-27
SEATTLE, WA, Cloud texting carrier, announced today that it closed a $5M round of capital.
Zipwhip, a Seattle-based cloud texting carrier, announced today that it closed a $5M round of capital with the lion's share of the money being used to grow out its business development team. Zipwhip decided to raise new capital after proving out a sales model that consistently yielded a 26% month-over-month revenue growth average throughout 2014. Additionally, the sales productivity per sales rep tripled over the course of the year. 'Our sales team had a record setting year, but we've barely scratched the surface. Given the market size, we chose to raise capital purely to accelerate our sales and marketing efforts. Business owners just need to know we exist,' says John Lauer, Zipwhip CEO.
In 2014, Zipwhip supplemented its mobile texting service for consumers with the introduction of landline and toll free texting for businesses in the U.S. and Canada. The service doesn't require business customers to make any changes to their existing numbers, service or hardware. They simply sign up for a separate cloud-based texting service at zipwhip.com, wait for their existing business numbers to be provisioned for service, and then start texting from any connected desktop, tablet or smartphone in a matter of minutes.
'What I enjoy most about our business is that we make it possible for businesses and consumers to finally have a natural and seamless texting experience on the same numbers used for voice calls. Let's face it, consumers prefer texting and we enable businesses to support that desire the right way,' stated John Larson, Zipwhip Chief Marketing Officer. Zipwhip credits much of its growth to its user friendly software that appeals to a wide range of consumer oriented businesses and will to continue to roll out new features throughout 2015.
