Sand 9, a MEMS company developing tiny timing products for wireless devices, has raised $16 million in equity out of a planned $20 million fund raise, according to SEC filings. Eleven investors participated in the offering.
Sand 9 is the technology leader in advanced MEMS resonators. Using the firm's universal resonator process flow, Sand 9 is introducing a suite of products for communications timing applications. Silicon MEMS technology has many advantages over traditional quartz crystal. Applications for the firm's lead product, the TCMO, include GPS, LTE, 3G, WiFi, networking, and industrial.
