6Scan Closes Funding Round
2013-01-02
TEL AVIV, ISRAEL, Leader in website monitoring and security for small businesses, today announced that it has closed additional funding from YL Ventures.
6Scan LTD, a leader in website monitoring and security for small businesses, today announced the appointment of Chris Weltzien as chief executive officer. Additionally, 6Scan announced that it has closed additional funding from YL Ventures, a global venture capital firm focused on innovative SaaS and security technology companies.
"We are very pleased to bring Chris on board as CEO," said Yoav Leitersdorf, Board Member at 6Scan. "Chris has consistently succeeded in bringing innovative business models, products and companies to market. His experience in the security software industry and his strong leadership will be a tremendous asset to 6Scan as we grow our position in the global market for website security services."
According to Weltzien, the new funding proceeds will be used to expand 6Scan's cloud-based security service to work with all web platforms and to build its US presence. Weltzien is a twelve-year veteran of the computer security space having started in 2000 at Zone Labs, and he will work from 6Scan's newly opened office in San Francisco.
"Legitimate websites that have been compromised with backdoors, injected code and other hacks are now the number one source of malware distribution," said Weltzien. "6Scan's proactive vulnerability testing and automated website repair makes it the ideal solution for small businesses looking to protect their online revenues and their website from being blacklisted."
Nitzan Miron, 6Scan Co-Founder and President, added, "This is an exciting time for 6Scan. With the continued financial backing from investors and the addition of Chris' experience and leadership as CEO, 6Scan is uniquely positioned to succeed in securing small businesses against emerging threats."
Over the past decade, Weltzien built the ZoneAlarm consumer group at Zone Labs (acquired by Check Point in 2005); ran the start-up Exploit Prevention Labs as President and COO (acquired by AVG Technologies in 2008); cultivated a revenue model and market for AVG's wildly successful LinkScanner technology as Vice President, Business Development; and expanded U.S. operations for anti-virus vendor Avira GmbH as General Manager, North America.
"I see a lot of similarities between desktop protection in the past ten years and website security for coming decade," said Weltzien. "The bad guys are always looking for maximum return with the least amount of effort and right now hacking small business websites is the low hanging fruit. 6Scan's cutting edge detection and automated repair will change that."
6Scan will maintain development team in Tel Aviv.
